The so called “Mobile Menace” ban would ban people from driving if they were caught texting or using a mobile phone while driving.
Citing studies that show 36% of drivers using hand-held mobile whilst driving, millions texting rather than talking, the reaction time of texting driver slowed 35% (versus reaction time of driver at alcohol limit slowed only 12%) and mobiles reportedly linked to some 30 road deaths last year, Alan Ramsey and Brian Tadman have created an online petition at Number10.gov.uk calling for those caught using a mobile phone at the wheel to be banned from driving.
The deadline to sign, which can only be signed by residents of the UK, is March 23, 2010.
