File under: Why in God’s Name Hasn’t Anyone Done This Before.

Elite’s new San Remo universal bicycle roof rack doesn’t mean “universal” in that it’ll fit any bike.  It means, it attaches to your existing roof rack on any car.  Two separate pieces, one for front fork mount, the other to cradle your rear tire.  Oh, and did we mention it’s cheap?  No?  OK, here you go: It’s cheap. It’s only $135 per bike.

The rear support pivots to adjust to the length of your bike despite the space between your front and rear roof racks.  It’s constructed of aluminum alloy with stainless steel screws.  It screws down over the roof bar, then a locking cover goes over the nut head to prevent theft.  It works for road and mountain bikes, even those with disc brakes.
Available in the U.S. through ProNetCycling.com at the end of June (’09).
