The Vuelta a España kicked off today with Liquigas upsetting pre-race favourite Alberto Contador’s Astana team, which finished Eighth.  Euskaltel-Euskadi finished second (+ 8 seconds) and Caisse d’Epargne took third (+ 9 seconds).  Italian Filippo Pozzato was the first Liquigas rider to cross the line and will therefore start Sunday’s hilly stage from Granada to Jaen as race leader. Stage 2, tomorrow (Sunday) covers 167.3 km from Granada to Jaén.
