In 2014, Yakima unveiled their aesthetically upgraded SkyBox with a dimpled carbon-look top piece, and those have been selling as fast as they can make them (their words). Which apparently kept them very busy, prolonging the release of the ShowCase model, which takes over top of the roost from the Skybox lineup.

The ShowCase line carries over features like internal ribbing to stiffen the lid for easier opening and closing. The upgrades are new push-button openers and improved mounting hardware. The latter claims to speed up install and removal while also making it ergonomically easier. The tail end is reshaped to better clear rear hatches on wagons and SUVs, too.

Two sizes are available. The ShowCase 15 holds 15 cubic feet of stuff and measures 80″ x 36″ x 14.5″, retail is $679. The ShowCase 20 swallows 20 cubic feet of cargo and measures 91″ x 37″ x 17″ for $779.

They’re available in two new colors, Anthracite and Quicksilver, both using a high gloss automotive quality finish. They’ll mount to any shape cross bar (round, square, aero, etc.), are made in the USA, and come with SKS locks to secure your stash.

I’m going to hold judgement on the new boxes from Yakima for the moment.
But, Thule’s mounting system blows away Yakima’s current system. There lid latching systems can be sticky also.
Maybe the new mounts are better. I look forward to seeing them.

I wonder if they’ll offer a Showcase 17 or 18 soon as an in-between size.
