Spreading virtual thumbs up throughout the indoor trainer world, Zwift adds three new trainers to its virtual shifting list. Now, the Elite Direto XR, JetBlack Volt V2, and Decathlon’s Van Rysel D100 can utilize the Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit.

This means that with the Zwift Cog and Click upgrade, you can take your indoor training setup to the next tier by unlocking virtual shifting. The system is compatible with any 8-12-speed bicycle, as well as fully compatible with other gear in the Zwift ecosystem.

So, What is Zwift Cog and Click?

The virtual shifting system is designed to “simplify and elevate your Zwift experience.” When you use the Zwift Cog and Click upgrade, the Cog replaces your existing cassette – no more swapping your cassette from your bike to your trainer, or purchasing an additional cassette just for the trainer. The Cog is compatible with any 8-12-speed and offers optimal chain alignment, so it also makes it easier to mount bikes with different drivetrains to the same trainer.

The Cog is paired with the wireless Zwift Click controller and can be mounted anywhere on your current setup. The system gives you the instant ability to run a wide range of 24 virtual gears.

Why Upgrade?

Access to virtual shifting can change the way you interact with your trainer. When you eliminate physical gear changes, you eliminate drivetrain wear. You will have a smoother, quieter experience while enjoying uninterrupted resistance transitions. This means more immersive Zwift sessions that will allow you to focus on your ride.

Plus, upgrading to the Zwift Cog and Click system will make your trainer compatible with the Zwift Ride Smart Frame. This would provide an “always-ready” all-in-one indoor Zwift setup.

what everyone really wants is compatibility with older Wahoo Kickr’s (V5, V4 etc)

Wahoo won’t want Zwift to make it work on older Kickrs as they last for years so no need to upgrade as the new ones aren’t much different.

I just got the Wahoo KickR Core with the Zwift Cog, Click and Zwift Play for $499. great deal. I do like the idea of not having to shift through my actual gears except that the gearing is a little different that what I’m used to.
Since the Zwift Cog is basically an adjustable spacer with a cog, I’m guessing for this to work on a wider range of trainers would be a programming upgrade, no?

I just wished it worked with other platformas other than Zwift….which I’m guessing will never happen

Same. But maybe some other manufacturers see the opportunity at hand and do a universal resistance switching software. Best case with customizable steps between gears and the ability to connect to existing electronic shifting as well

Between this and the laptop stand announced before, how many gadgets do one need to actually virtually ride a bike while not going anywhere?

Isn’t it easier to just grab your bike and go outside like any sane person would?

Must be lovely to live somewhere with weather that’s always good, and to work a job where you can always go for a ride while the sun is up, with similarly magical roads that are safe and accessible for people on bikes. I can only imagine being able to keep the fitness I want for the summertime by simply riding outside year round.

Let’s make a list of all the reasons someone might opt to use an indoor trainer on a given day that you didn’t bother considering:
–weather (snow, thunderstorms, high winds….use your imagination)
–rehabbing from surgery, illness, etc and can’t ride outside yet
–work hours on a given day make it impossible to ride outside that day
–busy doing parent stuff on a given day and not enough time in a particular day to ride outside

There are loads of reasons, and believe it or not there are folks that lead more complicated lives than you.

When is it supposed to come to Tacx trainers? One of the biggest trainer brand out there and still nothing… I’m thinking about changing to Wahoo if it’s stays like this.

Not only is Tacx taking FOREVER, but they’re owned by Garmin, who teams with Zwift on other projects. I’m not upgrading from my Tacx, so I’m just going to have to wait, I guess. Makes me mad every time I think about it.
