Better known for their extensive collection of full face helmets and a few BMX lids, Fly Racing has just announced their first XC/All Mountain style helmet called the Freestone.
It uses ConeHead technology (check our Kali post for some detail on that feature) to help disperse impacts over a larger area. Speaking of larger area, the dropped rear section provides deeper coverage, and soft EVA foam pads on the sides and rear further cushion against bumps and bruises…and that’s just the beginning of the feature set. The “Comfort Liner” pads the front section and has a built in bug net. There are 19 large vents and a moto-style adjustable visor that provides extended coverage against low sun angles.
The shell uses six distinct pieces, which gives it a unique look, with some of the color options using each panel to create a bold graphical look…
The rear retention mech uses an oversized dial, easy to grab with gloves, and straps have quick adjust closures. Claimed weight is 317.5g for a M/L, and retail is just $109. Should be available in February.
