Spanish bike maker BH just announced details of their fairly unique solution to keeping track of their range of high end e-bikes. The new Easy Motion GPS module drops into a specially designed slot within the battery compartment to let owners track their e-bike. Via a free smartphone app, users can monitor their bike’s location and manage its connection settings. Check out more details after the break…

The small GPS unit fits inside a secure compartment inside of the locked battery housing and communicates through the cellular data network via a standard SIM card in the built in SIM slot.  With the hidden GPS e-bikers can keep track of the bike at any time, and be sure that it is still securely locked up where they left it.

As it interfaces with the e-bike battery, you really never have to worry about the GPS itself running out of juice, and it even can remotely keep you up-to-date on the charge of the e-bike’s battery. Via a smartphone app, you can wake the GPS and put it back to sleep remotely, and even set up how frequently it will report its location.

It’s compatible with almost the entire range of BH e-bikes, from the high-speed Nitro City and other cruisers of the 45km/h Nitro line, to the Revo Scrape 27.5″ and other Revo on and off-road bikes, and even the all-wheel-drive Evo Big Foot Pro and other premium Evo e-bikes.

The new Easy Motion GPS Tracker from BH sells separately from BH’s e-bikes for 170€.

I don’t care to hear about motorbike stuff on a bicycle website.

LOL ive complained about that on here for a couple years now, it won’t do any good.

I like BH telling the hackers, jammerz & thieves exactly where the chip is.

Yeah, I’m with Pete on this one. The only way this makes sense is if the bike stops working without the GPS unit or if it isn’t removable.

Let me guess…none of you guys have ridden an e-bike yet, have you? They are really really fun and practical. I’ve been commuting on Trek’s XM700+ when I go into the shop and it has changed how I look at commuting via bike. Stop hating. This will get more people on bikes.

Blast the human motor! I’m so accustomed to seeing ‘it’s’ used incorrectly that its non-use here at first appeared to be another error. It’s a miracle–thanks Cory.
Ed: It’s easy to mess up, even when its issue is one we know all too well. 🙂 -c

“…Via a free smartphone app, users can monitor their bike’s location…”

Where is the parenthetical about incurring charges? I don’t know of any cell phone network provider who gives away free service, even for these low-traffic uses.

Enjoy your battery/charging system related nightmare in 9-12mo. I swear to god, kymco scooters are 1000 times a better invertment. better mileage, easier to maintain, availability of parts, availability of insurance, and the general right to be treated like a human being in the roadway are some perks.
