In the Northern Hemisphere, shorter days have already arrived, and our daylight hours will continue to dwindle for the next several months. That means the likelihood of flirting with dawn and dusk or finishing a ride in the dark is increasing, and the need to be seen is increasing along with it. As fall and winter approach, Sweet Protection is unveiling its new VIZ Collection of helmets designed to stand out on the road and look good doing it.
Sweet Protection’s VIZ Collection is “built around the idea that visibility and style shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.” As such, it is pairing high-visibility colorways and reflective detailing with several of its performance-oriented road, commuter, and mountain bike helmets. The road and youth options are available in bright VIZ Yellow, while the mountain and commuter helmets come in a more subtle VIZ Black with reflective logos and patterns that pop when illuminated at night.
VIZ Collection Details
Sweet Protection says its new VIZ Collection is: “Bold by day. Reflective by night. No compromise on style or performance.” The collection incorporates two new high-visibility colorways on six of its existing helmet models. The VIZ Collection helmets retail for $10 more than their non-VIZ counterparts.
VIZ Yellow — Bright, fresh, and designed to stand out from a distance, VIZ Yellow gives riders a bold option for increased visibility in traffic while maintaining Sweet Protection’s clean Scandinavian design aesthetic.
VIZ Black — Created for riders who prefer a classic black helmet but don’t want to compromise on visibility. Reflective logos and dot patterns integrated into the shell come to life when illuminated by headlights, adding nighttime visibility while preserving an understated look during the day.
VIZ Collection Helmets
Road and Gravel
For performance-oriented road and gravel riders, Sweet Protection has included its top-of-the-line Falconer 2Vi MIPS ($260) and Falconer Aero 2Vi MIPS ($310) models in the VIZ Collection. This gives riders the option to choose between the greater ventilation of the regular Falconer 2Vi MIPS or the enhanced aerodynamics of the Falconer Aero 2Vi MIPS. Both models have been tested by Virginia Tech’s Independent Helmet Test Lab and earned coveted 5-star ratings.
The Falconer 2Vi MIPS and Falconer Aero 2Vi MIPS are available in VIZ Yellow only. The standard Falconer features a VIZ Yellow upper shell, along with reflective black details on the lower shell, horns, and logos. The Falconer Aero builds on that with additional reflectivity on the aero covers.
Mountain Bike
For mountain bike riders, Sweet Protection has included the mid-range Primer MIPS ($180) and the top-tier Bushwhacker 2Vi MIPS ($285) in the VIZ Collection. While we certainly hope we don’t encounter vehicles on the trails, these helmets could be ideal for those who pedal on roads to and from the trailhead. The Bushwhacker 2Vi MIPS carries the Dutch NTA 8776 e-bike certification along with a 5-star rating from Virginia Tech. The more affordable Primer MIPS also ranks well at #60 (out of 304 total) on Virginia Tech’s list with a 4-star rating.
Both the Primer MIPS and Bushwhacker 2Vi MIPS come in VIZ Black only. This black reflective treatment reportedly looks like a plain black helmet in the daylight, but the lower shell pops with thousands of tiny silver beads that reflect light at night, along with the logos on the shell and straps, too.
Commuter
For urban riders or dedicated commuters, Sweet Protection included its Commuter MIPS in the VIZ Collection. With sleek styling and a modern, minimalist design, the Commuter MIPS exceeds all of the US, EU, and UK certification standards, as well as the NTA 8776 e-bike standard. Like the mountain bike helmets, the Commuter MIPS comes in VIZ Black only. It looks like a plain black helmet, but the lower shell, back panel, and logos are all reflective at night.
Youth
Sweet Protection didn’t forget young riders, and they’ve included the Ripper MIPS ($120) and Ripper MIPS Junior ($110) in the VIZ Collection, too. These stylish youth mountain bike helmets are equipped with MIPS rotational impact protection systems, Occigrip adjustable fit harnesses, and fixed-position visors. They come in bright VIZ Yellow with reflective logos and decals.
