Eyeing the new RIP 9 RDO but having trouble stomaching the price? Not to worry, Niner has you covered. Like most brands, Niner’s top of the line bikes are created from the wonderful material known as carbon fiber. Carbon has the potential to make really light and strong frames, but it also has a tendency to jack up the price.
Now the newest RIP 9 is getting a lower priced makeover in the form of we-made-the-same-thing-in-aluminum. That means you get most of the RIP 9 RDO performance including the dual wheel size capability, without the price…
Just like its carbon brother, the RIP 9 aluminum uses Niner’s CVA suspension system to pack in 150mm of rear travel. To keep the aluminum frame simple as well as durable, you’ll find a threaded bottom bracket, external cable routing, ISCG 05 tabs, and a Zerostack tapered head tube.
Some of the biggest news for the RIP 9 and JET 9 RDO models was the addition of 27+ wheel compatibility thanks to Boost rear spacing and bigger tire clearance, and that continues here as well. To make up for the difference in tire size, the 29″ bikes will ship with a 160mm travel suspension fork while the 27+ models bump up to 170mm. That keeps the numbers dialed into their [R]evolution geometry which stretches out the cockpit and allows the use of shorter stems and wider bars.

The aluminum RIP 9s will be offered in two different 2 Star SLX builds – one with 29″ wheels for $3,500, and one with 27+ wheels and tires for $3,80o. Both bikes include a 1×11 SLX drivetrain with a RaceFace Aeffect parts kit and a KS Dropzone dropper, while the price difference comes from the wheels with the plus version getting an upgraded Stan’s Neo/Baron wheelset. Both models start shipping to dealers in September.
