2017 Commencal Meta AM V4.2, lifestyle shot

Commencal is one of those companies whose wheels are always turning. Not that you can afford to sit on your hands with ever-changing standards and innovations, but the company offers a pretty wide lineup of bikes that rarely languish for long without seeing revisions and/or updates. For 2017 Commencal put the Meta AM under the knife and made the all-mountain machine more enduro-capable.

The V4.2 replaces the Meta AM V4, and Commencal says aside from the bike’s general appearance, “The only thing that’s changed is everything”. The Meta’s geometry has been tweaked and optimized for their longer 160/170mm suspension, the redesigned top tube accommodates any rear shock (metric, that is), and the axles are now Boost standard.

There are also new colors for 2017, and select models feature a new brushed finish. Check out the highlights of the revised frame and six different builds below…

The Meta V4.2’s frame boasts quite a few revisions over the outgoing V4. First of all, the geometry has been tweaked due to the bike’s new metric sized shock and 160mm rear/170mm front travel. The head tube is now a half-degree slacker at 65.5° but the top tube length, reach and seat tube angle are all unchanged. The suspension kinematics have been adjusted to provide better sensitivity and a more progressive curve versus the V4.

The V4.2 features a new two-piece top tube that’s designed to accept any rear shock you might want to put in there. The revamped frame also gives you more space for a water bottle, better clearance for the brake caliper, a new cable guide around the BB shell, a down tube protector, and a Boost rear axle.

The Meta AM V4.2 will be sold in six different builds: Below are the key features of each, check out Commencal’s website for the complete build specs.
