Vee Tire Co. says that the Rail Tracker has become their most popular cross country tread pattern. In that case, it should come as no surprise that it’s now available in plus size. More bikes than ever are adding the option to run plus size tires, so it makes complete sense that Vee would want to offer the same tires that are popular in smaller sizes on the bigger casings. While it’s good to have your most popular tread available, what makes the Rail Tracker plus really interesting is that it’s also now their lightest plus tire (with knobs)…

Adding yet another option to the ever increasing 27.5+ category, the Rail Tracker will initially be offered only in the 27.5 x 2.8″ size. Two options will be available though, with the tire sold with or without their Synthesis sidewall protection. Vee’s website lists the tire as 860 or 900g, which we’re assuming is without Synthesis, and with, respectively. We’re looking to get clarification on the weights, especially since the press release lists the weight even lower.

Built around a 120 tpi tubeless ready casing with a folding bead and their Silica compound rubber,  the new Rail Tracker could be a good plus option with prices starting at $70.

Sub 900g in those sizes? Look, I know you guys don’t want to kill + before it gets started, but seriously? I mean, it’s like we are supposed to believe a size 12 shoe should weigh the same as a size 6. It just doesn’t work that weigh!

Racey tires are play at your own risk. There are a couple places I ride that I’d be confident in an ultra light tire. It’s not for all terrain or all riders.

***that said, these aren’t even light. My Nobby Nics in the same size are nearly the same weight and not toted as being ultra light tires. Schwalbe has a 27.5×2.8 that weights under 700g

Full of doubts…

Not a single Vee tyre I ever had was even close to declared weight.

The biggest lie I had was 3.25×29 Bulldozzer. declared 1030g, actual 1235g…

Cheers!

Vee seems to design tread patterns without concern for function.

Agree with jednobiegowiec. I’ve had/tried 3x Vee tires, and all of them were way over their claimed weight. I just stick with specialized or Schwalbe these days. They are spot on their weights and actually make light decent tires.
