Need to save weight on that classic bike? Ti Cycles has just added their new 6/4 titanium M8x150mm draw bolt for quill stems. Get it on its own or with a wedge, either way it’s likely to weigh half as much or less than the clunky steel bolt that came on your bike. It’s just 31g, almost half what their stainless steel draw bolt weighs, and costs $25. Add a 21.8mm diameter wedge (13g, not ti) for 1″ stems and it’ll run ya $32. They use a 1.25 coarse thread pitch that’s 60mm long to work with even very short stems.

Why?

Also there are loads of hollow cromo bolts floating around from the front break freestyle days in BMX. Cheaper and lighter maybe.

This would be perfect if you’ve been in a coma for the last 30 years! I can’t imagine anyone else that would have a quill stem and worried about ~20g.

I have an 87 LeMond that I restored with 11s Athena parts and am very interested in this for my Nitto stem. I already purchased a ti bolt for my Campy seatpost. Don’t be so quick to judge.

They should offer a combo deal with Wound-Up.

I think you guys are grossly underestimating the vintage weight weenie crowd…

Lots of custom builders use custom length/ rise quill stems on request. There is totally a market for this, not a huge one, but it exists. Plus they are from The Peoples’ Republik of Portlandia, so there is that…

Ti Cycles makes production and custom quill stems, so there’s that.
They also seem to make lots of much more relevant stuff, so to showcase this one product instead of anything else seems weird.
Anyway, decent price for that bolt at least.

Thank you for the comments.

There are thousands upon thousands of nicely made vintage quill stems on bicycles in the world, and we and many other builders regularly build new quill stems, both for existing/vintage bikes and for new bespoke frame/fork sets. Our draw bolts are made to fit them.

For reference, road/MTB and BMX quills are different dimensions. This bolt is specifically made for the application it is intended for and has all the correct dimensions for that application.

Enjoy the ride!

Clearly not a get rich quick scheme by Ti Cycles. This is damn cool and as Ti things go, very reasonably priced. Kudos.
