The new Cycleops Magnetless Speed & Cadence Sensor lets you quickly and easily add either measurement to any bike. And it moves from bike to bike just as easily, just wrap the strap around your hub or crank and you’re off. The unit retails for $49.99 and can be used to measure either speed (on the hub) or cadence (on the crank arm) without needing any magnets on your frame.

It dual transmits via both Bluetooth Smart and ANT+, showing its data on virtually any cycling smartphone app or computer. To set it up, simply lay it flat to set as speed, or upright as cadence. Pull the battery out to reset it. It can even connect with Zwift as a speed sensor if you’re using one of their (or any other) “dumb” trainers.

If, however, you’re using one their CycleOps Magnus and Hammer “smart” trainers, you’ll see a firmware update that improves roll down calibration accuracy. The update also teaches them to detect cadence without any additional sensor.
