Yuba says their Supermarchė cargo bike is already one of the most popular carbo models on the market, and now it comes in an e-bike variety. The new Electric Supermarché uses a Bosch CX Performance motor with a 500Wh battery pack to power your load up any hill with ease.

The battery pack sits behind the steering column, out of the way but easily accessible for removal or recharging.

Keeping things spinning at a good cadence is an Enviolo internally geared rear hub, with a chain tensioner to keep that extra long chain from flopping all over. Four piston Magura hydraulic disc brakes bring it all back down from speed.

An integrated frame lock lets you use a simple rod lock to keep the rear wheel from spinning (look just above the yellow sticker on the frame tube), and has an auxiliary lock holder just behind the rear light so you have somewhere to stow it when you’re rolling. The lock is sold separately, though, as are most accessories to add the desired functionality.

Like this bamboo cargo box, which can seat two kids with seatbelts. Front cargo capacity is rated at 180kg (about 400lbs!), and the rear rack can handle up to 36kg (~80lbs), though maybe not as a combined load. That’s an increase from the non-motorized version’s 100kg load rating – they figured with the motor you’d be able to haul more, so they beefed things up to increase capacity. The low cargo platform and smaller 20″ wheels keep the center of gravity low for easy handling.

Opt for that front child carrier/basket and you can also add on this new rain cover to keep everything dry. Prices for all accessories TBA, but the bike will retail for €5,250 (probably about the same in USD) when it goes on sale in September.

    • No such thing as a free lunch Bas. I’d question your statement of the Babboe having a bit stronger motor and would make note that the Yuba comes with 4-pot magura hydraulic brakes, that alone is worth the 10% difference in price. And have you ridden the Yuba with it’s cable steering? I have and it’s got the smallest turning radius of any cargo bike I’ve ridden and is very positive in the steering feel.

      • I’ve aways been curious about that cable steering. Always seemed like a detriment for on-center feel, but apparently not.

        • The cables need to be kept quite tight which minimizes any play and therefore delay in the system but there are cable adjusters to keep it tensioned. I was skeptical but being able to do right radius turns in either directions convinced me it is a brilliant system. Most rod linkage steering systems have a limited steering circle the opposite side of the rod.
