Since these are basketball players and not track racers, State wanted to make sure they had front and rear brakes. Since they expected the team to keep the brakes in place in the future, internal cable routing was added for the rear brake. And since you don’t want to be responsible for blowing out the knee of a pro baller, it looks like the bikes are set up with freewheels as well.

Up front, wider MTB bars were added to fit the massive riders.

Along those same lines, State says that while their standard XL 62cm frame worked for some of the players, they had to create a special XXL 66cm frame for the taller players on the team that are over 7′ tall. Each bike was customized for the individual player with their name and number, and delivered in the parking garage at their first home game after Christmas.

While the team seemed to enjoy their new rides, it didn’t help them win that day. Perhaps they were just too excited, thinking about their new bikes!
