e*thirteen is shifting into another gear when it comes to their cassettes. With the rise of the 12 speed 1x drivetrain, you could guess it was coming, but now it’s official. The new e*thirteen TRS+ cassette delivers massive range and is compatible with both Shimano and SRAM drivetrains, and also has a few new tricks…

Technically, there are two new TRS+ cassettes with a 9-50t for 12 speed and a separate 9-46t for 11 speed, but both offer impressive amounts of range. For the 12 speed option, that means a crazy 556% compared to 500% of SRAM’s higher end Eagle cassettes. It’s a bit heavier at 398g, but it also checks in at $299.

The cassette still uses a two piece design with a steel lower half and aluminum upper, but the way the two halves connect has changed. However, there are also fewer aluminum cogs now to increase durability.

In order to make installation and removal as easy as possible, the steel cluster now has cassette tool splines to eliminate the need for two chain whips.

The aluminum cluster slides onto any XD driver and now secures with a pinch bolt instead of an additional lock ring that needed a special tool.

The two halves still lock together with tabs, but now there is an additional set screw just to guarantee the two halves will never come apart accidentally. So you’ll need to remember to remove this screw before you try to remove the lower half of the cassette.

  1. I think I could do without the 9t cog on the bottom for MTB and swap it for smaller jumps in tooth count in the middle of the cassette.
