Are you a globetrotting cyclist, and want an easy way to find great local guides? VeloGuide has your answer, with their on-demand ‘ride and guide’ sharing app. It connects you with destinations, guides, and even rental bikes to make your cycling travels smooth, easy, and adventurous.

The world of ride sharing continues to expand quickly for cycling, with more apps and services by the day. Canada-based VeloGuide is aiming to combine the best features of ride sharing, bike touring, and outstanding guide experiences. To date, the service has over 1,600 guides working in 587 cities and 69 countries worldwide.

Rates vary based on guide, location, and the type of bike. While some are one-on-one experiences, VeloGuide also works with bike shops and rental services to expand the total range of offerings.

There are many destinations available around the world – check out their website to see if they offer your dream trip. The most popular destination in the US thus far is California.

You can bring your own bike if you want, or rent something from VeloGuide. If you do rent, VeloGuide has their own theft and damage insurance protection, and ensures that all bikes are in good working condition.

Guides use a star rating system, similar to what you’re familiar with from ride share services and apps. VeloGuide recommends no more than five guests per guide.

  1. first problem i had was that as a guide, i am responsible financially for the bike rental. so you have to then build a relationship with bike shops or rental services. I would be happy to pick up the rental for the client but i dont want to be stuck with a bike rental if they no show.

    • Hi Bob. If a client books and pays for a tour and you include the bike in the price and then the client does not show up, you are still paid. Provided they do not cancel within the timelines of the cancellation policy (currently 24 hours after booking or 30 days prior to tour or rental).     • Hi there. I’m actually a guide with the service in Canada. We set our own rates and routes. Anyone is welcome to sign in and set themselves up as a guide given they meet the requirements. It sounds to me like there is an opportunity for more VeloGuides in your area.
