POC adds new Axion SPIN helmet, NFC Medical IDs, & new Clarity sunglasses

In the lead up to Crankworx and Eurobike, POC has been busy. Always focused on safety, their latest additions include an all new SPIN equipped helmet, a Near Field Communication feature for select helmets, and some new eye protection as well.

Called the Axion Spin, the newest helmet is another for trail and enduro mountain bikers. The helmet still features extended coverage at the rear and temples for increased protection, and large vents and internal channeling for cooling. A 360° size adjustment system is combined with SPIN (Shearing Pad INside) pads to enhance fit, and the helmet has a patent pending breakaway adjustable visor.

To be available in a multitude of colors, expect more on pricing and availability as we near Eurobike.

NFC Medical IDs

Crashing is something no one likes to think about, but it happens. POC is trying to make sure that if it does happen, first responders or even other riders will be able to identify you just by scanning your helmet.

Available only on the Tectal Race SPIN NFC and the Ventral Air SPIN NFC, both helmets have an embedded digital NFC Medical ID chip as well as a RECCO reflector. One of the main advantages of this system is that it’s nearly weightless, requires no battery power or cloud service, and it can be continuously updated or deleted.

In the event of a crash, the chip can be scanned with a Near Field Communication enabled smart phone which immediately gives the rescuers your information via your profile on twICEme. This is a Swedish company that POC has partnered with to integrate the technology into the helmets. The app and system is free to use.

POC is calling their NFC enabled helmets a world first, and while they won’t prevent you from having a crash,  it will provide your information to first responders quickly in the event that you are unable.

Clarity

Finally, POC has some new Clarity in the form of the AIM Clarity and Define Clarity. The Aim uses an oversized spherical Carl Zeiss Vision lens for enhanced contrast and color. Hydrophilic rubber temples and an adjustable nose piece will help them stay on your face, while a grilamid frame will keep them durable and low weight.

To Define Clarity, POC uses smaller twin lenses and a bit more casual form. The lenses still include Carl Zeiss Vision optics for, well, clarity. Again featuring a grilamid frame and hydrophilic rubber temples and nose piece, the glasses are said to fit well with the new Axion SPIN helmet.
