Silca’s new Avventura Americana seat roll adds a new limited edition to their roll-up saddle bag family with improved storage for adventure riding. Built with the same Boa dial attachment to the bike and classic tool roll layout, the new Avventura features easier to use organization pockets inside and more secure closure for all-weather, off-road riding.

Silca’s big Grande Americano saddle bag tool roll already packed in plenty of storage capacity (I use that one to carry a spare all-road tubular tire, plus tools) and secure Boa mounting. But Silca continually takes in feedback from both their own testers & consumers, and realized they could refine the Americana to better meet real rider needs. So, they addressed the key points and have created this limited edition version – the Avventura Americana.

What’s new with the Avventura Americana?

First off, the Avventura gets lighter weight body fabric to make it easier to roll up tightly, whether almost empty or full to the gills. The new external fabric is an olive drab 400D woven packcloth with water repellent coating, then it’s lined with a bright yellow gold 200D that makes it easier to find what’s packed inside.

Overall roll shape & pocket layout gets updated too. Now the Avventura gets an asymmetric fold down flap for better coverage when the pack is full, plus a 4-pocket layout with narrow slots to keep a CO2 & levers organized and away from your spare tube. The center pocket is sized to fit one tube up to 700cx50mm aka 29×2.0″

On the outside a new reinforced center section has been added to protect what’s inside, and a wider, non-stretch velcro strap makes for more secure closer. The same Boa closure dials in a perfectly tight fit under almost any saddle rails, together with the rail guard sleeve made of the same grippy fabric as the center reinforced section.

Avventura pricing & availability

Silca wasn’t specific on how “limited edition” the new US-made Avventura Americana Seat Roll is. But we do know that it will sell for about a ten percent premium over the Grande, at $65 for the Avventura Americana. And that it is available now in time for holiday shopping exclusively from Silca direct, and ready for “all your off-road, harsh weather, all-season riding.”

Going to pick up a few at my local shop. Nice Christmas present for a few of my friends.

I’m confused. So why would a brand like Silca not make a product like this available in a local bike shop? There is way too much focused in my opinion on on-line sales and this is just another reason why shops have a difficult time surviving. Why can’t you do both?

Thanks for the comments Dave. Unfortunately for our supply chain, the Avventura is a US cut and sewn bag using US made materials which have seen price increases of ~50% during the development due to tarrifs/duties/profit taking, etc. This left us with 3 options: move it entirely overseas to keep the retail price at the bike shop, sell it direct only, or sell it through shops for about $95 per bag..

We are 100% committed to the bicycle dealer base, but the rapidly changing environment in the US has been quite punitive to small manufacturers and assemblers who have seen dramatic price increases on both foreign and domestic inputs over the last 12 months.

Wait that doesn’t line up… Aren’t the tariffs that are affecting the cycling industry specifically on imported goods? How would the tariffs be affecting your bottom line if the bags are all sewn in the US from US made materials?

I have a tool roll by Speedsleev, and I don’t see any advantage over a traditional seat pack like Jandd or whatever. You have to take the roll off the saddle, unroll it, and things instantly fall out if you’re not careful. With a regular zip-open bag, it stays on the bike, and you take out just what you need. The only advantage with tool rolls is they wrap things tight so nothing bounces around. But in my bag I have a rag stuffed in there to prevent that. Remember rags? Who wants to change a tube or whatnot, have dirty/greasy hands, and then put gloves back on, or get it all over your tape?

There now I unburdened myself

Seconded!

Seat bags are supremely uncool compared to tool rolls (for now??), but so practical.

Seat rolls suck in practical application. I had the biggest one Silca made and it wouldn’t fit 2 road tubes, 2 co2s, a pedros lever, and a small multi tool without looking like George Costanza’s wallet and consistently flipping over. In addition to that whenever I did need to access anything in the roll it took forever to get everything just so (so it would close) and then had to reattach it to the bike. They look great if they’re empty but the rest of the time either go with an eolo wallet in your back pocket or suck it up and seat a seat bag.

One issue I’ve had with a Silca roll in the past was that on a muddy ride, grit totally jammed the Boa mechanism up. It was completely inoperable before a thorough cleaning. I’m wondering if this will continue to be a problem.
