What if you had a lock that was always with you, easily deployed, and locked up both the frame and your front wheel? Sound good? That’s what the creators of the Lobster Lock thought when they set out to create a better bike lock a few years ago. Originally launched as a Kickstarter project, the Lobster Lock is an interesting take on the bike lock and shipping now.

Resembling a lobster in the way that its arms reach forward to lock around your front wheel, the Lobster Lock is permanently attached to your bike’s water bottle bosses. The arms unfold, and then pivot forward to lock around a bike rack and your front wheel. Since the arms wrap around your frame as well, even if someone were to unscrew the lock from the downtube the bike would still be safe.

With a 33″ reach, the Lobster Lock should work with a variety of bikes including some mountain bikes (depending on fork travel, tire size, frame shape, etc.). The hardened & heat treated steel arms and links should provide decent protection, but will also add about 3lbs to the weight of your bike. If you regularly carry a bulky U-Lock though, the added weight may be a wash.

With it permanently mounted to your downtube, you never have to worry about forgetting your lock at home. And since it occupies the water bottle mount, the Lobster Lock can still accept a bottle cage on top of the lock body.

Want to lock up your rear wheel as well with added protection? You can always double up with dual Lobsters front and rear.

Each lock uses a key to secure the arms around the front wheel.

Priced at $74.99, the locks are available directly from Lobster Lock, or they can also be purchased through Amazon.

Ugh, portrait rarely works on bicycles. Doesn’t anyone look at these pictures before they release them?

I’ve had this lock on my bike since last fall. I bike commute every day ( except during COVID!) and Lobster Lock has made my workday much smoother. I never forget my lock, don’t waste time getting my lock out.. it’s really great and I highly recommend it!

Look up the lock picking lawyer on youtube. He opened it in seconds with strips of a redbull can.

If you haven’t seen it, Lock Picking Lawyer has a second video where he reviews the 2.0 version, and gives it glowing reviews

Ho secure is the Lobster Lock? How well does it hold up to bolt cutters or hacksaws or a length of pipe? Does it have any independent security rating from Sold Secure, ART or anywhere else?
