I’ve done my fair share of commuting by bike in my past life. But, in the last decade or more, I haven’t needed to. I still frequently use my bike to run errands around town, though. And having a really good lock to keep your bike safe while shopping is an absolute must.
I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes, when I lock my bike in public, the security of my wheels and/or saddle always lingers in the back of my head. Well, Cordalock is addressing that exact problem.

Getting Started
Based in Spain, Cordalock was launched through Kickstarter back on July 15th. This unique locking system is designed to secure your frame, both wheels, and saddle in a single pass.
There is no need to carry a heavy secondary cable lock or mix and match with U-Locks and stuff to cover all the concerning bike parts. Cordalock means just one lock that does the whole job.
The design flexibility is a real win for practicality here. Even if you are an occasional U-lock user, you know that they can be a struggle when locking to oddly shaped racks, thick lamp posts, or urban street furniture.
“Your bike is only as safe as its weakest lock,” said Mariano, CEO of Cordalock. “Most riders know the feeling: you lock the frame, but you still worry about the wheels or the saddle. Cordalock was designed to remove that compromise: one device, one key, and protection across the whole bike.”
Cordalock can adapt to whatever you’re locking to. That flexibility isn’t a security compromise, though. Because underneath the textile sleeve sits a core of hardened, carbonitrided steel rings.
It’s been independently tested against bolt-cutter attacks by AIDIMME, a Spanish technology institute focused on metalworking and materials testing.
Innovation from Outside the Bike Industry
Cordalock didn’t come from within the cycling industry. The product was developed by three Spanish industrial companies, Lemar Leben, Factor, and Hegoplac. These companies have backgrounds in precision machining and hardened steel production.
“We didn’t come from the lock industry,” Mariano said. “We came from metal. That gave us the freedom to start with a blank sheet of paper instead of asking how to make a better U-lock or a better cable lock. We asked: if we were solving this problem from scratch, what would we build?”
The concept for Cordalock came after the founders spotted hundreds of bikes locked up outside a medical trade fair in Germany. They noticed that a lot of the bikes were secured using multiple locks, and some were already missing components. They needed something better. So they developed Cordalock, and the core locking design is patent-protected.
