It’s always a pleasant surprise to read about a limited-edition bike that’s actually more affordable than before. That’s the case with the new Limited Espresso Edition of Veloe’s mid-tail Multi & long-tail Multi Lungo cargo ebikes. Their affordable secret is spec’ing the entry-level build with Shimano’s most recent (and easily forgettable) EP5 ebike motor, slashing prices 13.5%. Now, you can pick up a made-in-Italy pedal-assist cargo ebike to run your errands around town from just 3200€.
Limited Veloe Multi & Lungo Espresso edition cargo ebikes
We were already pretty impressed with how affordable the Veloe mid-tail Multi & long-tail Multi Lungo cargo bikes were when we checked them out last winter. Also, they manufacture the frames entirely in Milan, with some smart automated robot technologies.
But, now you get the same compact made-in-Italy steel cargo frames built up into complete utilitarian e-bikes for 500€ less thanks to a swap from EP6 to EP5 for the entry-level build.
So what’s the difference?
It’s easy to forget Shimano’s EP5 launch two years ago. While most ebike innovation in recent years has been all about power and torque-maxxing, Shimano went the other direction with EP5, prioritizing affordability. It is the same mid-drive format and mounting as the more premium magnesium EP6 & aluminum EP8, but dials back max torque from the 85Nm of EP8/6 to deliver 60Nm in the same weight aluminum housing as EP6. And the same continuous rated power as the more expensive drive units.
Sure, it is less torque. And peak power is just 500W (the same as EP6, and just a bit less than the 600W peak of EP8). But in this compact city cargo ebike application with its low-geared Nexus 8 internally geared rear hub, it still offers plenty of boost when you are just zipping around town or picking up kids after school.
Veloe Espresso cargo ebikes – Pricing, options & availability
The special limited Espresso editions of Veloe’s Multi & Multi Lungo cargo ebikes are available via pre-order now, exclusively through their local dealer bike shops, with a few already selectively in stock. The price is the same for either model – mid-tail Multi with 24″ wheels, or long-tail Multi Lungo with 24″ front & 20″ rear wheels: £2750 / 3200€, including a 504Wh battery, Nexus 8 hub, and chain drive setup. That’s a hundred euros less than the custom-configurable builds you will find on the Veloe website, and locks you into this limited-edition Espresso brown paint job.
Or you can configure different EP5 options with standard paint colors, even a belt-drive for less than the previous EP6 version. Or even select a Di2 Nexus hub for integrated smart shifting, too.
And if you still feel like you need more power, both are also available with 120Nm Bosch Cargo Line motors for an extra 1200€, as well.
