Fizik has expanded out the last of their best-selling but narrow road shoes, with the new Tempo Overcurve R4 Wide. Built on a new EVO3 Wide Last, the new shoes make room for larger-volume and wider feet for improved comfort and more fit options in the popular asymmetric Overcurve shoes design.

Find the perfect fit in a road shoe to balance comfort & efficiency can be tricky, with many cyclists self-limiting to a specific shoe brand once they find a comfortable last shape. Fizik had long been a company that offered a narrow, low-volume last, and now with EVO3 Wide opens up the potential for many new cyclists to try their shoes.
Based on the Fizik Overcurve asymmetric upper design that claims to more naturally “conform to the natural shape of the foot”, this Tempo Overcurve R4 Wide just expands in all directions with a “slightly roomier forefoot, higher volume ball, and wider metatarsal area” all points reacting to riders who felt Fizik shoes fit too snugly. Fine tuning the fit is still managed with a single Boa IP1 dial on each shoe across three crossing loops. While some prefer multiple dials for separate adjustment across the forefoot, the single dial layout actually offers more precise adjustment in smaller increments per click.

Fizik Tempo Overcurve R4 Wide – Tech details
Beside the updated larger-volume fit, the Wide shoes are otherwise the same from a technical perspective as the standard Tempo Overcurve road shoes. The Overcurve shaping and ergonomic fit first debuted on the original Tempo Overcurve release a couple years back. But the more recent and more premium Tempo R4 Les Classiques upgraded the multi-texture upper, the Boa-only adjustment, and the stiffer R4 injected carbon sole this past spring for improved road riding performance.
The new version is simply roomier for a broader range of fits, and now comes in more color options.

The standard Tempo Overcurve R4 Wide Microtex upper version comes in three color options for $200 / 200€ – either all black, all white, or a navy blue & black combo, all available now.
Or if you are looking to be a bit flashier, the $230 / 215€ Tempo Overcurve R4 Wide Iridescent model will be available from September 2020 in this shimmering copper beetle & black version.
