The Endura Speed Pedelec is their new ebike helmet designed for the ebike commuter. A Koroyd Core, extended coverage, integrated adjustable visor and a sporty look make this a very attractive option for commuters everywhere, not just those who ride ebikes. Let’s take a closer look.

Endura Speed Pedelec EBike Helmet

An e-bike helmet? Really? You may well be thinking that the cycling industry is trying to sell you something you don’t need. After all, is there really any difference between your average road cycling helmet and an e-bike helmet? Well, yes there is actually…

All bicycle helmets must have minimum shock-absorbing properties to satisfy the CE standard EN1078 certification. However, there is a higher NTA8766 S-EPAC standard that ebike helmets must attain in order to name themselves as such. That certifies them for use on ebikes or speed-pedelecs that go up to 45 km/h.

The new Endura Speed Pedelec helmet is certified to both standards, and it’s super cool looking. This is their first ebike helmet, aimed at ebike commuters. It protects against higher impact speeds and covers a larger part of the head than your average commuter helmet.

How does it do that? The Endura Speed Pedelec Helmet features a complete Koroyd Core, a honeycomb-shaped lattice designed for optimum energy absorption. We see this on Endura’s high-end lightweight full-face helmet for downhill mountain biking and their MT500 enduro helmet too.

In line with the safety requirements for ebike helmets, the Speed Pedelec has pretty comprehensive coverage, down the back of the skull, at the forehead, and at the temple. A peak is replaced with an integrated visor that flips down into place. Prescription glasses wearers will like this feature, especially.

What this article fails to mention is where this standard is enforced. The EU is the main case for this standard and that being said, there are multiple standards being talked about with countries creating their own. The US has no laws requiring any special helmets for e bikes and given the state of the US government, will not be any time soon. Should you wear a thicker helmet? Probably.. will you? Probably not
