Introduced in alloy form last fall after taking a number of top spots on the downhill world stage (it swept the podium at the Val di Sol World Championships), the new Mondraker Summum Carbon DH bike brings all of the brand’s top level tech to the gravity game.
It keeps their Forward Geometry, which puts the shortest possible stem on the bike, and uses their lightweight Stealth Air Carbon frame construction. It even gets their Zero suspension, but with a new design based around a Trunnion shock.
But the most important update is the addition of their MIND suspension telemetry kit, letting you track your suspension’s activity over a GPS map to see where, when, and how it’s working so you can tune it better than ever.
2022 Mondraker Summum Carbon tech details
The new Summum Carbon bike comes in two variants, R and RR, but the difference is spec. They share the same Stealth Air Carbon frame with a streamlined look. Mondraker says they wanted to give it a lean, lightweight look and feel compared to the sometimes bulky-looking bikes found on the mountain.
So, they followed the lines of their trail and enduro mountain bikes to give the Summum a slimmer look. But with the addition of a Trunnion shock mount and good engineering, they maintained the stiffness and strength needed to handle World Cup downhill courses.
They also added a new one-piece, full-carbon monoblock upper linkage, and surrounded the rear shock in a cage to maximize lateral rigidity.
The Zero suspension platform uses a closed rear triangle with upper and lower linkages. What makes it unique is that the shock passes through the seat tube and connects with the lower linkage just behind the tube, giving it fully floating design where the shock isn’t directly mounted to the frame at all.
It has a MIND of its own
Notice those two little holes above the main upper pivot on the photo before this one? Those are the mounting spots for the Mondraker MIND diagnostics tool. Attach it, and it’ll track your suspension’s movement and air time, synced with your position on a track thanks to GPS. Summum Carbon Build Specs & Geometry
The Summum Carbon RR is the team replica bike and gets the same spec being raced by team athletes Laurie Greenland, Brook MacDonald and Eleonora Farina. Components includes FOX Factory suspension with Kashima, Shimano Saint drivetrain and brakes, e*thirteen carbon wheels, and Michelin tires.
The Summum Carbon R steps down to Fox Performance suspension bits, SRAM drivetrain and Code R brakes, and alloy wheels. Or get it as a frameset with Fox Factory DHX2 rear shock, headset kit, and stem.
Both bikes come with their “Geometry Kit” headset that lets you change the head angle by +/- 1º or 2º. A rear axle insert kit gives you three positions to change the chainstay length by +/- 5mm. And both bikes are available as a 29er, or an MX build with 29″ front and 27.5″ rear.
