First spotted at Unbound Gravel, Specialized just made the S-Works Recon Lace official. For those who would rather have a pair of laces instead of BOA dials, the new shoe is another option for efficient (and comfy) gravel riding.

S-Works Recon Lace

Take the existing S-Works Recon gravel shoe and add laces, and you get the new S-Works Recon Lace. With a welded mesh/TPU and Dyneema upper that has been stripped of any hardware, in addition to a more customize able fit, the shoe also gets lighter at 280g (claimed, size 42).

You’ll still find a FACT carbon outsole with a stiffness index of 13 for maximum efficiency. To ensure durability and walkability, there are ample tread blocks (TPU for the pedal pontoons and SlipNot rubber for the heel and toe), replaceable toe spikes, and a woven carbon used for the exposed sections.

Body Geometry Features

I love the look of Specialized shoes, but they dig into my instep/top of my ankle. I’ve always wondered why they make the top the the tonge area so high and so stiff , as this seems like a common complaint in reviews of their shoes.
