Blockchains and bikes are becoming a thing, and RGT Cycling is the latest to bring NFTs to the starting line, literally. Or, well, virtually.
As part of their Echelon Racing League, which pits some of the top teams (like Rally Cycling, Canyon eSports, Tibco Silicon Valley Bank Pro Cycling, Butcherbox, and the USA Cycling National Team) to their championship eSports events, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) will be offered as prizes.
The league begins on November 20, 2021 with 40 teams and 240 riders competing in the 8-round pro event. The digital courses will mimic real world courses, including races from the US premier calendar. It’ll stream online, too, so you can watch them compete for digital glory and blockchain prizes.
As NFTs, the prizes will be digitally unique and winners will be able to verify ownership via the blockchain. Should they also imbue the winner with special abilities or access “in game”, they could become valuable, too.
There’ll also be a “talent scouting” portion of the League where you can show your chops and try to get recruited to a pro eSports cycling team.
Para-cycling series adds adaptive bike options
The Echelon Racing League will also introduce a “first of its kind para-cycling series, which is being developed in collaboration with the Paralyzed Veterans of America and USA Paracycling. The para-cycling series, which has a unique set of rules and regulations, will see the launch of adaptive bikes and avatars representative of the para community.”
