The Bluegrass Rogue Core is the MTB brand’s first open-face helmet to house MIPS brain protection technology – a feature that has become synonymous with high-end helmets. Bluegrass have historically focused on full face gravity helmets, so the addition of a second open-face lid to their roster is a welcome one. Let’s take a closer look at the latest MIPS MTB helmet for enduro.
Bluegrass Rogue Core MIPS MTB Helmet
The new Bluegrass Rogue Core MIPS helmet is a little pricier than their Golden Eye open-face helmet. That’s expected for a helmet that gets the latest MIPS-C2 rotational impact protection system.
On the safety front, we’re satisfied that the Rogue Core has good coverage. Granted, it doesn’t offer the coverage of a Giro Switchblade – it looks a lot more like a traditional trail helmet in that respect. But, its shell does sit sufficiently low on the forehead, creeps in a little at the temple area, and extends well down the back of the rider’s head toward the neck.
The Bluegrass Rogue Core helmet looks to be well-ventilated. We like the addition of vents just underneath the visor, just because they look good. The Fox Speedframe helmet has vents here too. Bluegrass say their placement is strategic – not just for aesthetics but because additional ventilation here helps prevent goggles fogging up.
On the topic of eyewear, the Bluegrass Rogue Core is compatible with the stowing of sunglasses. You’ll find ports in the visor and front of the shell that should hold them in place securely.
The visor position is adjustable so you can push it right up and out of the way to stow your goggles underneath. Or, you can probably mount an under-visor GoPro there too.
We like the addition of the magnetic FIDLOCK buckle for the chin strap. We’ve tried it on both the MET Parachute MCR and Fox Speedframe helmets with no drama. It’s a hard-wearing buckle and is easy to use with one hand.
The Bluegrass Rogue Core enduro helmet features the Safe-T Heta retention system to keep the helmet stable on the head. A 360° head belt ensures that there are no pressure points on the skull. Vertical adjustment leaves you with an individual fit.

The Bluegrass Rogue Core MIPS MTB helmet is priced at 150€ | £130 | US$180 | CAD$250 | AUS$250. Bluegrass do offer a non-MIPS version. It also loses the premium feature FIDLOCK buckle, and it doesn’t come with a soft storage bag but it is more wallet friendly.
It will set you back 100€ | £90 | US$120 | CAD$170 | AUS$180. Both open-face enduro helmets will be available in early October. They are CE certified to AS/NZS and US standards.
