Normally when you hear of a leak from a suspension company it’s a bad thing, but not this time. Well, not this time if you’ve been waiting for a particular fork from Cane Creek.
Today at Core Bike it was apparently leaked that Cane Creek will soon have a 44mm offset version of their 29″ Helm suspension fork. That’s in line with current trends of running shorter offset forks on 29″ wheeled mountain bikes with slacker head tube angles for better handling.
The 44mm version of the forks will be offered in both Air and Coil variety, both for $899 which is the same price as all of their other forks. That will make the Helm available in 27.5″ air and coil in a single offset, and 29″ air and coil in both 44mm and 51mm offsets. Currently, the 44mm offset forks are listed as having 140, 150, and 160mm travel options which only excludes the 130mm travel version offered on the 51mm offset forks.
Since the fork was leaked a bit early, Cane Creek says that the fork will be available for pre-order now, but won’t ship until around April. We’ve asked if current 51mm forks can be converted with a new crown steerer unit and will report when we hear back. Update: Cane Creek says that they expect to have a program to allow customers to change offsets of their current forks in the future, but initially they will be focused on producing new complete forks.
