Carbon-Ti adds two new mid-depth aero carbon X-Wheel Road wheelsets to their lineup with new SpeedCarbon Disc 44 and GravelCarbon Disc 44. Both sharing the same 44mm deep, 23mm wide internal blunt-nosed aero rim profile, the SpeedCarbon wheels get a lighter build at just 1260g for the pair, while the GravelCarbon get extra reinforcement to handle more off-road abuse.
Carbon-Ti X-Wheel mid-depth carbon road & gravel wheels
We know Italian manufacturer Carbon-Ti for their mixed material components like carbon-spidered brake rotors, wildly machined composite chainrings, and lightweight hubs. All made-in-Italy, Carbon-Ti also laces a limited selection of road & XC wheelsets in-house, too.
Now they’ve added two versatile carbon road & gravel X-Wheel Road wheelsets, which use their own light alloy X-Hubs laced into one of two different rims, both out of the same mold. 44mm deep x 29.5mm wide eternal x 23mm internal, with a “micro-hook” bead that Carbon-Ti says combines the stronger bead of a hookless rim and the added security of hooked tubeless rim.
X-Wheel SpeedCarbon Disc 44
First out of the mold is the Carbon-Ti X-Wheel SpeedCarbon Disc 44, which dictated the wider rim design to match wider modern road tires (Carbon-Ti recommends 28mm and wider tires) and provide a smoother airflow transition between rim & tire for improved aerodynamics / reduced drag. An asymmetric rim spoke bed is said to balance spoke tension without impacting aero performance.
The road version is built up with 24 triple-butted bladed Alpina Hyperlight stainless steel spokes and aluminum nipples. They have a wheelset weight of 1260g, and a 100kg limit (rider+bike).
X-Wheel GravelCarbon Disc 44
The gravel and cyclocross-ready GravelCarbon Disc 44 version uses the same rim profile, simply reinforced with extra carbon in the rims to handle more rough off-road surfaces, and the additional resulting stresses & impact forces.
Plus, the gravel version is built up with 24 stronger bladed aero Sapim CX-Ray spokes, again with aluminum nipples. They have a wheelset weight of 1350g, and a 120kg limit (rider+bike).
Carbon-Ti X-Wheel Road – Pricing, options & availability
Both variants are made-in-Italy by Carbon-Ti and handmade to order, laced to Carbon-Ti’s own lightweight alloy straight-pull X-Hubs. That means they have a roughly 4-6 week lead time, but it also means there are some good customizable options. Buyers can pick either the Carbon-Ti X-Wheel SpeedCarbon Disc 44 or GravelCarbon Disc 44 for the same 1790€ price tag, including spare spokes but not tubeless tape or valves.
Available options include: IS 6-bolt or Centerlock disc hubs, 12mm thru-axle or QR, four 56 POE freehub options (Shimano HG, SRAM XDR, Campy, or Campy N3W), 8 hub colors to choose from (matte black, gloss black, red, blue, gold, silver, acid green, green), and 8 decal colors with either Medium or Wide logos (black, red, blue, white, fluo yellow, silver, acid green, chrome). Wheels come stock with premium SKF bearings, or you can upgrade to CeramicSpeed ceramic bearings for an extra 450€ if money is no object.
All wheels get a standard 2 year warranty, plus a lifetime discounted crash replacement warranty.
