The new Elite Fly water bottle comes in at a claimed 54g, which chops about 30g off the weight of a standard water bottle, yet fits into any standard bottle cage. But you wouldn’t want to weigh it down with a “standard” bottle cage, now would you? No. So they’ve also created the 23g Vico carbon composite bottle cage to create a pairing that still weighs less than a typical bottle…
The bottles retail for $7.99 and the cages for $39.99, both relatively fair prices for products at that weight. The bottle uses an “innovative plastic material” in the body, which is where most of the weight savings appear to come from, and gets a polypropylene lid with oversized silicone spout. It’ll hold 550ml (18.5oz) and is available in black or white.
The Vico cage is available in gloss or matte black and has a familiar looking Elite bottle cage shape, but shaves grams by optimizing material thicknesses throughout but retains the bottle well. So, no more reason to just pour a couple ounces out to save those grams. Unless you want to save more grams.
Roadies..*facepalm*
MAMILS…*facepalm*
XC racers are the ultimate weight weenies though.
Can’t wait for the “anti-weighing-anything” crowd to chime in exclaiming loudly that they’d never buy such a product.
Still going to use Camelbak. It’s all about the nozzle baby.
Can’t a company please make a fluid with which to hydrate that weighs less than water?
Love the products from Elite. $40.00 for a full carbon cage that is MADE IN ITALY. Awesome. And I also know that Elite makes some of the most bio degradable bottles on the market so when you do get rid of your bottles they break down much faster than most others. And $7.99 MSRP for a bottle like this. Sign me up.
Still too heavy. I drill my water bottles to save weight.
7.99 for water bottle is a good deal no matter how light it is.
These bottles were advertised for their lightness. More than 2 years later, I am using them not because they are light but because they are easy to squeeze (a bonus for hands with a wimpy grip) and easy to clean. The valve comes out very easily. And they are relatively cheap. How many bottles have you tossed in the recycling bin because of mold in the valve?
