This new 3mm option joins the popular BT line of bar tape. It’s considered a premium upgrade that lies between the BT Allroad (2.5mm) and BT Gravel (3.5mm).

The Skinny

What sets the BT OrthoCell tape apart from its counterparts?  Ergon’s BT OrthoCell tape gets rid of the traditional PU top layer found on most EVA tapes. In its place, they use the advanced OrthoCell orthopedic foam material on the entire tape.

The OrthoCell material is said to be very durable, with a “great mechanical grip”. So much so that it doesn’t need a surface coating. Another benefit is that the lack of a PU layer also makes it significantly lighter.

The BT OrthoCell tape is about 40 grams lighter than BT Allroad (140g). Additionally, it will wear better and deliver better long-term performance.

Another huge benefit is that the OrthoCell won’t collapse or compress like EVA. This means that the BT OrthoCell tape maintains its rebound, support, and damping properties even on long rides or over time. This bar tape will stay fresh, ride after ride.

BT OrthoCell Key Features

  • No PU top layer – fewer failure points, better longevity
  • Durable OrthoCell foam – consistent support that doesn’t collapse
  • Welded filament surface – added grip without extra layers
  • 3mm thickness – sits between Allroad and Gravel in the BT lineup
  • 40g weight savings vs. BT Allroad
  • Made in Europe
  • Available soon, priced as a premium option in the BT line
  • Colors: black
