Splitting the difference between their trail-ready 130mm Cascade Peak and the recently introduced enduro-focused 150mm travel Le Sal Peak mountain bikes, the new Fezzari Wire Peak borrows the TetraLink suspension design and adds pedal assist courtesy of a Shimano E8000 system.
They say the bike was designed before the concept of a motor was introduced, letting them dial the geometry and ride characteristics they wanted. They they figured out how to fit the motor on there. Yes, there are concessions to be made around chainstay length, but the Wire Peak’s goal was to ride like any other good mountain bike (or, they may argue, better) regardless of whether you use the assist.
“We designed the Wire Peak to be a mountain bike first and a pedal assist bike second,” said Tyler Cloward, Director of Product Development. “This is a bike that allows you to explore more – take a longer ride, go up a steeper trail, ride a new area, or take another lap.”
The geometry takes a cue from the Le Sal Peak’s upright seat angle and slack front end. Here, you’ve got a 76º seat angle and a 66º head angle, and chainstays are a reasonable 435mm (17.125″).
The Wire Peak is designed with 27.5+ tires (up to a 2.8) in mind, which add a bit more bite for the extra weight, but can be run as a 29er (up to 2.4″ tires). Just flip their GA link at the bottom of the shock to adjust the geometry to match the wheel size, keeping handling similar for each.
The bikes are available in three stock builds, any of which can be customized to suit your needs. The top two ship with Shimano’s flagship E8000 motor and battery system that delivers 504wh and 70nm of torque. The Comp level bike steps down to the E7000 motor, which has a little lower torque. Fully charged, they say you can get up to 60 miles of assisted pedaling, but that’ll depend on your mix of Eco, Trail or Boost modes. The battery is well integrated into the frame and can be locked for security, or removed for easier charging in the house (you can also charge it on the bike).
