Looking for something to play on the speakers at your shop this holiday season? Tired of the same old carols and Muzak? Well, Something About Cycling is certainly not your every day sound track. Created by San Marcos Cycling, a group of friends from San Marcos, TX who ride bikes but also make music. The CD is an entire collection of bicycle themed songs in a few different genres. Whether it’s the Bicycle Blues, or Chicks in Spandex there are some entertaining songs that are worth a listen. Some of the proceeds will be used by San Marcos Cycling to get new riders started riding bikes.
Check some of the lyrics and see where to sample the tracks after the break.
Bicycle Blues
Well remember how I told ya ‘bout how my bike was whacked
Every part was broken – and the frame was cracked
Well I’m here to tell ya now things ain’t gotten any better
It’s always windy, cold, or hot, – and even the roads are wetter
One of these days I’d like to ride my bike without fear …
But for now I gotta’ use what I got – and it’s time to get up outta here …
(but I got the)
B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
I dang sure hope you never walk a mile up in these shoes
(yea I got the) The B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
Cause even my cleats are missing a couple of screws
Yea, I got the B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
I don’t know nothing more that I can do
Well, I wanted to go out today – but my shorts are worn too thin
Anyone riding behind me tells me they can see my skin
And apparently seeing my crack isn’t what they like
So nobody wants to ride with me when I’m out there on my bike
(so I got the)
B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
I dang sure hope you never walk a mile up in these shoes
(yea I got the) B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
Cause even my cleats are missing a couple of screws
Yea, I got the B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
I don’t know nothing more that I can do
o-o-o-o-o-o…
(yea I got the)
B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
I dang sure hope you never walk a mile up in these shoes
(yea I got the) B-I-C-Y-C-L-E blues
The B-I-C-Y-C-L-E bicycle – blues
Ya!
Share the Road
Going out – on a ride today
Cars never give – the right of way
It’s not my fault – I don’t have a bike lane
But after all – it’s not an F’in highway
Rolling down the road with the cards and the trucks
Dodging every vehicle, traffic sucks
Every ride is a risky calculation
I’m only trying to get to my destination
Don’t need to turn me into road kill
Don’t wanna be part of your front grill
I understand the fun of driving fast
But I just have a little favor to ask!
Share the road! – Please don’t hit me
Share the road! – Give me 3 feet
Share the road! – Don’t wanna’ push up daisies
Share the road! – Please…
They give us 6 inches past the little white line
Apparently, this should be fine
But the tractor trailer rolling by at 65
Doesn’t seem to care if I survive
Everyday I’m out I wear my Road ID
Wondering if a car will get the best of me
Even asked the DOT for a better lane
After all – isn’t that humane
Don’t need to turn me into road kill
Don’t wanna be part of your front grill
I understand the fun of driving fast
But I just have a little favor to ask!
Share the road! – Please don’t hit me
Share the road! – Give me 3 feet
Share the road! – Don’t wanna’ push up daisies
Share the road! – Please…
Happens every day – another cyclist gets hit
Don’t want to be another one of those statistics
All we need is a little bit of common sense
I prefer not to be referred to in the past tense
Once in a while you might need to slow down
Enjoy the sights while you’re driving out around town
Just don’t push me off into the trees!
Share the road! – Please…
Don’t need to turn me into road kill
Don’t wanna be part of your front grill
I understand the fun of driving fast
But I just have a little favor to ask!
Share the road! – Please don’t hit me
Share the road! – Give me 3 feet
Share the road! – Don’t wanna’ push up daisies
Share the road! – Pretty, Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Please…
