As the weather changes, you may find that your trusty Five Tens just aren’t cutting it. For those colder, potentially wetter months, Five Ten still has you covered with two new shoes—the Freerider Pro Mid VCS and the Trail Cross GTX.
Freerider Pro Mid VCS
Calling it a ‘shoulder season’ shoe, the Freerider Pro Mid VCS is sort of a hybrid with a Freerider lower combined with an OrthoLite Sockliner with D30 ankle protection. This isn’t a waterproof shoe, but it should provide more protection from the elements compared to the classic Freerider. It should also be warmer thanks to the sock liner which will help keep warmth in and cool weather out.
The D30 pad is strategically placed on the inside of the ankle for extra protection.
On the bottom, a Stealth S1 Dotty rubber outsole is used to provide the legendary Five Ten grip on flat pedals. Above that, there’s a compression-molded EVA midsole for comfort and shock absorption. The Freerider Pro Mid VCS is priced at $180 and is available now.
Trailcross Gore-Tex
If you need something more waterproof,
the Five Ten Trailcross Gore-Tex mountain bike shoe is an option. As the name would imply, this waterproof shoe has a Gore-Tex membrane to keep your feet dry. The hi-top design features a reinforced upper with a neoprene velcro collar.
Underneath, you’ll find a dual-compound Stealth outsole and an EVA midsole for a shoe that’s designed with a little more walkability in mind than the Freerider. The Trailcross GTX is available now and sells for $200.
