Foes Introduces the Shaver 29r and Updates the FXR and Hydro

If you developed a bit of a crush on the Foes Ultra Shaver we highlighted a few weeks back, but larger diameter wheels have taken your fancy, then you should be seriously considering this new Shaver 29r as your next trail bike.

The frame retains the same 2.3:1 single-pivot leverage ratio as the 26″, but will have a trail demeanor all of its own. The 29r, mated to a 140 mm fork, has a steeper head tube angle at 68°, inch longer chainstays (18″), and a bottom bracket which stands 0.4″ taller than its sibling. Due to the steeper head tube the overall wheelbase remains virtually the same.

Travel is decreased slightly to an adjustable 5-5.25″ rather than the 26″ versions 5.25-5.75.

The build pictured above was roughly 31 lb. Complete build kits may look entirely different. Claimed frame weight is 7.3lb (3.3kg). MRSP, including a Fox Float rear shock, will be aprx $2,399 .

The show bike was running 2.25 Shwalbe Nobby Nics, but had sufficient clearance for something meatier.

All Foes bikes are proudly handmade in America. Their frames are emblazoned with the letters USA in a variety of locations.

The Shaver 29 utilize a 142×12 thru-axle dropout.

On Foes bikes, the thru-axle threads into the derailleur hanger. The hanger is clamped onto the frame via a set screw.

The company also utilizes a splined ICSG tab. This allows you to simply swap out a bent tab in case of a hard impact or not run one at all. The tabs are available in either ISCG old or new, which means you can still run that perfectly good, very expensive, chain retention device you’ve using forever.

FXR 

The FXR has been completely revamped for 2013. The updated frame still utilizes a classic single pivot but the leverage ratio has been revised from 2.17:1 to 2.3:1. Frames should be available in the fall. MSRP, including a Fox DHX Air, will be aprx $2,500. Frames will also be available with Curnutt shock.

The frame formerly came stock with a 135 mm qr rear end, but a 150×12 swingarm, with option for a floating brake mount was also available. A 150×12 rear end is now standard.

The new FXR utilizes a swooping hydroformed down tube and a direct mount front derailleur.

Travel is adjustable between 6.3” or 7”.

Hydro

The updated Foes Hydro downhill bike maintains the same low 2.3:1 leverage ratio but now has a tapered headtube rather than a 1.5″ front end.

Suggested retail for Frame and Fox DHX rC4 is $2,599. A Cane Creek Double Barrel shock runs an additional $200.

The forward shock mount can be swapped out to make room for a Curnett XTD shock. Frame and Curnett XTD shock will retail for $3100 USD.

Foes offers longer and shorter push rods to slacken the geometry to 63° or reduce travel to 7″.

The push rods are available in multiple colors.
