- Timbuk2 has partnered with Mission Cycling (not to be confused with Mission Workshop) to create the Mission Cycling Wallet. It holds your iPhone, credit cards and cash in a slim, aerodynamic case that fits perfectly in a cycling jersey pocket. It’s made of 840D ballistic nylon to give your electronic lifeline some weather protection while still letting you use the touchscreen. Retail is $29.00.
- Yuba Bicycles is accepting nominations for it’s Yuba Bike Hero (presumably Yu B A Bike Hero?) contest. Kn0w someone who is a local super hero, doing good deeds for the community and its citizens? Nominate them here and they could win a free Yuba Mundo cargo bike.
- Our buddy Eddie O’Dea has opened registration for the Southern Cross, an endurance cyclocross race in February. Early registrants are guaranteed one of the now infamous TwinSix / Krautstache designed event T-Shirts. We might actually make it down there this year with a little project bike we’re building…stay tuned. Perhaps the best part of the race is that it finishes up at Montaluce Winery, where free samples and a hearty meal await.
- Rolf Prima has just rolled out a 2-year crash protection policy called Hero Program. It’s an extended warranty deal that’s offered at the time of purchase and can be bought to cover alloy and carbon road and mountain bike wheels.
- The Sea Otter Classic, running April 19-22, 2012, has added cyclocross to the expansive list of competitive events offered. The races will be very spectator friendly, running in the midst of the expo area. Details here.
- IMBA is offering a free calendar for anyone joining up at their minimum suggested level of just $35. Like trails? Consider joining. They used to have an opt-out option for the free gifts, too, so if you really don’t need/want a calendar, that lets them apply 100% of your donation to their efforts.
- A Colorado woman has her bike stolen, then steals it back. Good story here.
- And one of the coolest bike racks we’ve seen yet is here.

Great idea, but I think the Mission Cycling Wallet misses the mark by leaving the pockets uncovered. That puts things like credit cards, ID, and money at risk of slipping out unobserved when the rider removes the wallet from his jersey pocket to use the phone. How about a zippered wallet that opens like a book to access internal pockets and to place or remove the phone?
