The jury may still be out for the road racing world, but disc brakes have been taking the cyclocross and gravel markets by storm the past few years. With this new demand comes innovation from wheel manufacturers everywhere. This week from Barnoldswick, England, Hope has stepped up with the release of the 20Five wheelset. Built with their nearly impermeable hubs at the center, the wheelset offers a tubeless, wide, disc brake-only option for the skinny(er) tire set…
The Hope 20Five wheelset starts with a 700c road rim that measures 20mm internal and 24mm external with a 25mm depth. This wider rim profile should be a good match for wider road and cross/gravel tires that are becoming popular, especially on the tubeless side of things. The wheels can be converted to tubeless with the proper rim tape and valve stems. Rim weight is listed at 425g with a welded seam and is available in six color options.
At the center, you’ll find Hope’s lighter SP24 hubs that are available with both SRAM/Shimano and Campagnolo freehub bodies. The straight pull hubs are laced up with 24 double butted Sapim Sprint spokes. They also include standard quick release end caps, and can be easily converted to other axle forms with the appropriate kit. Weights for the wheels are 755g front and 885g rear with Shimano freehub.
