Gore Wear launched their Infinium brand for the Fall 2018 season, and continues to expand and improve the product line. Case-in-point, their new R5 Gore-Tex Infinium insulated jacket just won the ISPO Product of the Year. The technology relies on a super-light wind-blocking laminate that’s used on the inside of the jacket, rather than the outside.
The Infinium line isn’t limited to jackets, and acts as a category of its own within the entire Gore line. Check out the press release below to learn more about it, and the ISPO award.
PRESS RELEASE
This year’s ISPO Award celebrations saw GORE® Wear claiming the “Product of the Year” title for its GORE® R5 GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ Insulated Jacket – the first of its kind in the world. Included in the collection for autumn/winter 2020, this jacket is special in all sorts of ways, and not only because of its appearance due to a transparent face fabric. Featuring the new GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® lining construction , the jacket weighs a mere 250 g in size large while still offering windproof protection. It keeps you warm thanks to a Polartec® Alpha® insulation and is fully equipped with two zippered side pockets and a hood.
During the development phase the designers focused primarily on the question of how they could make sure that the insulating layers remained dry and, consequently, effective enough for running outdoors in winter. After all, the less moisture a jacket takes up – from the baselayer and from outside – the more able it is to maintain its insulating capabilities.
The key idea was to develop a completely new GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® laminate to be used as the inner rather than the outer layer, as is typically the case. The fabric is windproof, extremely lightweight (24 g/m²), breathable and ensures that sweat neither soaks into the Polartec® Alpha® insulation layer on top of it, nor into the rest of the jacket: water vapour is quickly transported out of the garment, ensuring that runners stay warm and dry. The outer garment layer also features an extremely lightweight fabric (31 g/m²) that is transparent and has a PFC free DWR treatment. The ingenious thing about this jacket is that the reflective tapes and brand logos are not on the outer fabric but instead on the insulation layer underneath it.
The result is an unbelievably light, soft-to-the-touch, quiet and stylish jacket that keeps runners warm and dry – even if they sweat a lot, or when the weather gets grim. For sport and for afterwards, for runners and other outdoor enthusiasts looking for top functionality accompanied by a unique outward look and feel. Men’s and women’s versions of the GORE® R5 GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ Insulated jacket will begin to launch at retail for €249.95 in a variety of colour combinations in August 2020.
The GORE® R5 GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ Insulated Jacket can be viewed at the GORE-TEX stand A1 / 404 at ISPO 2020, taking place in Munich from January 26 to 29, 2020.
