Hunt wheels have given their best-selling Carbon Aero Disc road bike wheelset family a makeover, with wider internal widths, lighter rims, and more premium spec ratchet freehub internals. Now called simply Hunt Carbon Disc, you can pick from 30mm, 40mm & 50mm deep aero profiles with 22mm internal hooked tubeless beads for road and all-road riding. With complete wheelset weights from just 1408-1464g and prices under $1000€.
Hunt 30/40/50mm Carbon Disc aero road wheels upgraded
All-new, wider hooked tubeless rim profiles give the affordable aerodynamic Hunt Carbon Disc wheels line-up a solid refresh, coupled with an upgrade to fast ratchet hub internals. Hunt continues to push the aero optimization and unique rim & spoke material solutions in their top-tier Limitless road and gravel wheels. But these budget Carbon Disc wheels are the backbone of what made Hunt so popular.
For under a grand you can get competitively light carbon road wheels with wide 22mm internal tubeless-ready beads and solid performing blunt-nosed aerodynamic rim shapes. Plus, a wide 30mm outside that smooths airflow over modern road and even narrow fast gravel tires, too.
They make a solid upgrade over the entry to mid-level wheels that come on most stock bikes. Or just an affordable way to add a second road or all-road wheel setup to make your road, all-road, or gravel bike even more versatile. Fit anything from 25-50mm tires with tubes or set up tubeless (ETRTO compliant).
And Hunt will still set you up tubeless, shipping wheels ready to ride with sealant already inside, if you also order tubeless tires when you buy wheels from them. This remains one of my favorite benefits of buying Hunt wheels, 9 years after testing out my first set.
What else do you need to know?
Hunt says the deepest U-shaped 50 Carbon Disc wheels will deliver an “8W aerodynamic benefit over a standard 25mm-deep alloy rim” based on their tests in the GST wind tunnel. And are only 4W slower than their industry-leading SUB50 Limitless Aero Disc wheels with 28mm tires.
The Carbon Disc wheels apparently have even been ridden to a Giro d’Italia stage victory.
The new H_Ratchet 36T SGL rear hub that debuted on their 42 Limitless Gravel race wheels last summer also promises improved durability and lighter weight. Plus of course, simple trusted ratchet freehub internals with 36 solid points of engagement.
