Pivot Cycles founder Chris Cocalis was at Interbike demo days showing off his new Firebird long-travel mountain bike with some trick new features not seen on the other Pivot frames.  Video above, “more” pics after the break…
Above is the floater suspension fully extended, and below is with the suspension fully compressed.  Note the different position of the front derailleur between the two, it’s mounted on a pivot just under the front-most pivot of the suspension and keeps the chain in the sweet spot of the shifting plates.
Below is a close-up of the front derailleur mount.  The frame is also built with the mounting points for a chainguard, or, you can remove the whole front derailleur assembly to run HammerSchmidt (post, website).ÂÂ
The rocker arm is carbon fiber to keep it light and trick, and the shock lock-out switch is easy to reach just under the top tube.
Lastly, a close up of the non-drive side shows the bottom rocker with the shock “floating” between the two rockers.  All machining, welds and frame building is typical high quality we’ve seen on other Pivot bikes.
