If you are riding a road bike with a Campagnolo drivetrain, there aren’t a lot of powermeter options out there for you, fewer still if you are looking for true two-sided measurement. But Watteam’s latest DIY Powerbeat G3 power meter brings an affordable option, with stick-on strain gauges that work with alloy Potenza cranks.

Watteam Powerbeat G3 affordable Campy power meter

As far as we know 4iiii will install their Precision sensors only on your left Potenza crank arm, and Stages will sell you just a left carbon arm to go with your Chorus, Record, or Super Record crankset. Of course SRM has been making a Campy spider for years if you are looking to spend around 3000€ for a complete crankset.

But, Watteam’s latest generation 3 Powerbeat power meters can be easily glued in-place at home, onto your own aluminum Campagnolo Potenza crankset. We’ve done the process on a crankset ourselves, and it is both easy to do and makes for a clean & simple install.

Tech Details

The Powerbeat G3 is available as the $260/300€ Single for left-side only, or $400/420€ Dual for true two-sided power measurement. You can even get a $600/600€ 2×2 setup if you have two bikes with alloy cranks that you want to measure power on (they don’t both need to be Campagnolo). Just quickly swap the new modular Comp Unit pods back and forth for whichever bike you are riding at the time.

The new G3 powermeters are available now direct from Watteam or their international distributors. And if you are in the US, the also offer an install service where you send Watteam your cranks and the send them back, ready to track your power output.

How original to name it “G3”, because no other power meter brand has done that before. /sarcasm
Come on guys… could you at least try?

I wouldn’t put this on my bike if they sent it to me for free

I agree. It is really, really ugly looking. Rather go without a power reading than use this. Looks like a college engineering project.
