Every year Kona, HI hosts a ton of athletes for the annual Ironman World Championships. This year though, one of those athletes was there in spirit. Making good on a pact with the late Dave Mirra to qualify for Ironman Kona, Ben Bostrom rode and finished the grueling test of endurance on a custom Specialized S-Works Shiv painted to honor Mirra in memoriam. The final part of the plan was to sell the bike after the race and donate all of the proceeds to benefit CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) research.

After releasing a poignant video earlier this year, the time has come for the Shiv raffle which is being handled through Road 2 Recovery. If you haven’t already, check out the Remembering Dave Mirra clip after the break, and get more details on the raffle…

Even without the connection to Ben Bostrom and Dave Mirra, the 2017 Specialized Shiv is valued at $12,000 with a SRAM eTap drivetrain and Roval CLX 64 carbon wheels and has only been raced once. Raffle tickets are available through the Road 2 Recovery website, and start at  $5 for a single entry, up to $50 for 15 tickets. All proceed will directly benefit CTE research, and the winner will be picked on February 1st.

This is sick. Pity they don’t say the size anywhere on the page.

A quick google search shows that Ben Bostrom is 5’11”. The Specialized fit chart shows a Shiv medium as fitting 5’6”-5’10”, a large 5’9”-6’2”, and an XL 6’1”-6’6”

Seems like a pretty safe assumption he’s on a large.

Yeah, that looks like it was under/over clocked by 90degrees, making it very similar to Biopace. Maybe that method is poised for a comeback.
