2015 Mondraker Summum Carbon DH downhill mountain bike

Just a couple months after introducing a 27.5″ version in alloy at Eurobike, Mondraker’s whipped out this new Summum Carbon to help their pro athletes get that last little edge en route to the podium.

Danny Hart, Emmeline Ragot, Markus Pekoll and Innes Graham will race the new bike throughout the 2015 UCI World Cup season. They’ve been testing the carbon model throughout the 2014 season, and now it’s available to all with the same Forward Geometry and Zero suspension introduced on the three alloy versions. But, Mondraker’s saying its stiffer and stronger, but also more comfortable and compliant. And it’s very light, coming in at just 6.25lb (2,837g) without shock, pretty darn good for a DH frame.

To get all that into a single bike, they borrowed from the years of development they’ve put into the Foxy Carbon enduro bike…

The Summum Carbon frame uses their “Stealth Carbon” construction, which is a moniker that represents both the intricate shaping and the actual molding process. The shapes are achieved by wrapping plies around high density (read as firm) EPS and biodegradable silicone molds, allowing for higher compaction and smooth inner walls…both of which tend to make for stronger, lighter frames.

The shapes and high pressure molding makes for one darn good looking frame that’s also very stiff, particularly at the headtube thanks to the sloping inner tube reinforcing the area.

Complete bikes come with a 20-30mm direct mount, or you can opt for their 10mm stem. The Pro Team complete bike and frameset comes with an FSA adjustable headset designed around a 1-1/8″ straight steerer. It allows you to run a +/- 2, 1 or 0 degree head angle adjustment off the 63º baseline.

The rear end is full carbon also, and the rear triangle integrates a full width mud guard to keep crud off the shock.

The main lower and rocker arm pivots use an oversized axles with bearings sitting in reinforced sections, all to keep everything stiff.

The bottom shock mount floats on a lower linkage, and both upper and lower shock mounts use needle bearings to smooth over the action as much as possible.

Swappable dropouts provide four different chainstay lengths (445/450/455/460 mm).

Yea, that may be one of the best looking DH frames I’ve seen. lines remind just a little of my ’05 demo, which I always loved the looks of.
