If you’re looking for buzzwords at the 2021 edition of Sea Otter, Cerakote would have to be up there. There seems to have been a steadily increasing use of Cerakote finish options in the industry for awhile now, but all of a sudden, it was everywhere. That includes the new ShredKote program from MRP.

As a refresher, Cerakote is a name brand of thin-film ceramic coating. It’s thinner than paint which makes it lighter, and the ceramic coating is also more durable and won’t flake off, even with most impacts. All good things when it comes to finishing bicycle components. Which is why MRP is now offering it on all of their suspension forks.

Initially, it will be offered in 12 color with plans to expand that in the future. Pricing is set at $100 for fork lowers or $150 for an entire fork (lowers and crown).

Turn around time is said to be just 2-4 weeks, and is an extension of MRP’s ‘Ready To Shred package’. Ready To Shred basically delivers you a perfectly tuned fork that is already cut to length for the steerer with the crown race and starnut installed, and it includes a brake adapter. The Ready to Shred program adds $39.95 to the price of the fork.

Nice to see more companies using Cerakote. It is a great product with lots of options other than just colors.
