Bicycle makers will have two new categories to consider as they wrap up their bikes for the 2013 North American Handmade Bicycle Show.
Come February, judges will also have to decide on the best Theme Bike and the best Utility Bicycle. For Theme Bikes, the builder will have to describe the concept they’re portraying as part of the build. Click past the break to see the full list of categories for which awards are given.
Meanwhile, Gates has posted a $11,250 pot for builders making the best belt driven bicycle. That’s considerably more than for the 2012 show. The Gates Carbon Drive Contest will award five prizes each of $1,000 cash and five of their belt drive systems. Contest bikes will be judged on their overall aesthetic appeal and technical factors such as their sliding dropouts, belt tensioning systems, frame splits and other belt-drive-specific designs.
