In a relatively short amount of time, CHAPTER2 has been writing their own story with some interesting bikes. Founded by Michael Pryde, Michael honed his bicycle chops while at NEILPRYDE as the head of the bicycle division. Michael left in 2015 to pursue his own project, CHAPTER2. Now, the brand has launched their third model, the HURU.

Meant for the climbing experts out there, the HURU “means feather or rising in Maori,” which is a pretty good name if you’re looking to fly up the slopes of your nearest mountain. While the HURU is impressively light with a 789g/819g rim/disc brake frame (size M), and a 379g/389g rim/disc brake fork, CHAPTER2 points out that there’s more to this bike than just light weight.

The company claims that the geometry is just as important, and this bike is built to fly down the descents as much as it floats up the climbs. The geometry is said to closely resemble that of their RERE frame, only modified to be a pure climber.

The frame itself is made from a blend of Toray T1000, T800, and 3K direction weave carbon fiber and is sold in five frame sizes. It includes a reversible seatpost that checks in at 219g and is kept to 27.2mm for added compliance. Additional compliance is said to be built in through shaped seat stays and a “kinked” fork dropout. Likely in a move to cut weight, the fork seems to use a straight 1 1/8″ steerer along with two different rakes depending on the size.

Frame details include a BB86.5 press fit bottom bracket, internal cable routing with Shimano, SRAM, or Campy electronic capability, and 28mm tire clearance. The rim brake frames are direct mount brake compatible, while the disc brake frame uses flat mounts.

Pricing starts at $3,199 for the rim brake frameset or $3,349 for disc. Each frameset includes a frame, fork, C2 fork expansion bolt, TUMU seatpost, headset, spacer kit, and seatpost clamp. There will also be a special Team Edition with more flashy paint, and a limited Black & Orange edition – both for the same price. Everything is available for preorder now, with bikes beginning to ship in February.

I always thought a SuperSix would look good with a sloping top tube.

So is this consumer direct or can I buy one in a shop? I looked on your dealer locator and it does not look like there’re are dealers in the United States. I never understand people buying a bike like this by just looking at pictures? Yes you save a few dollars but what if you hate it. One of the reason’s I purchased a Factor O2 9 (which I am loving) is because I could go do a dealer and test ride the bike. It’s fits, love the feel of the bike, etc. But while this bike looks pretty why buy it (other than saving a few dollars) if you cannot at least see it in person and see how it fits and feels.

Surprised at the cost. I’d sooner buy a frame with proper dealer support for that kind of $.

Support is stellar just FYI, I have owned a Chapter 2 Tere for over a year now and have received better support than my previous brands. When sometimes getting response to a question from the designer/owner of the company himself I was shocked. Mike builds beautiful products with exceptional design, form and function.
