We’ve already seen some key updates to the Orca Aero, but now Orbea is updating the more well-rounded Orca as well. Called the OMX based on the new carbon frame, this particular road bike is designed to be better in almost every way than its predecessor without being labeled as a specialist in a single category.
Starting with the carbon frame, Orbea has managed to drop the weight to just 833g for a size 53cm. The OMX is only available with disc brakes, and both the frame and the Freeflow fork are capable of running 700c x 32mm tires.
By dropping the seat stays in a manner similar to the Orca Aero and using optimized tube shapes, the new frame is 10% more aero than before. The frame is also 15% stiffer. A proprietary D-shaped seat post is held in place with an integrated binder bolt, and 12mm thru axles are found at both ends.
Offered in seven sizes, the geometry is fitting of an aggressive bike that’s considered well rounded.
Exposed cables are generally not considered clean or aero, so they’re hidden from the bar with just a tiny bit of exposed cable sticking out under the tape. To keep the clean look going, the stem includes an integrated computer mount that’s also compatible with lights or cameras with standard mounts.
Orbea already offered customization through their MyO program, but now they’re kicking things up a notch. Now you can select your own ‘style’ as well. Offered in five versions, the styles are removable fork decals that certainly stand out. While some are opaque, others are translucent meaning they’ll change how they look depending on the base color.
Orbea OMX builds start at $4,999 and top out at $9,599.
