This new Rapha Pro Team Roadsuit promises to shave seconds off every race for EF Pro cyclists while retaining the versatility and comfort to be the racers’ pick the whole season. Rapha says the key has been the close development relationship between their in-house design Atelier and the EF athletes, that enabled them to iteratively refine fabrics and fit to create the “most versatile suit” in the pro peloton.
And while it makes the EF Pro Cycling racers faster in team pink, now you can get it too in more stealthy all-black…
Hands-on development between Rapha & EF Pro Cycling athletes
Skinsuits used to be exclusively niche tools of time trialists, triathletes & cyclo-crossers. But more and more they’ve become the go-to race choice throughout the entire road season, as racers look for every possible aero advantage or Watts saving. Now, riders will pick skinsuits from the Spring Classics to summer racing Sprint stages in Grand Tours.
“Progress, like the peloton, never stands still. If you don’t innovate, you get left behind. Suits are the future of racewear as the sport’s leading riders favour their supreme comfort, aerodynamics, speed and functionality.”
These new Rapha Pro Team Roadsuits – versions developed to give “race-winning speed” to both their EF women’s and men’s pro athletes – reshape their previous Aero Suits for improved speed & versatility. Rapha dialed in the new skinsuits with individual fabrics that they tested in “small-scale wind tunnels” for optimal 45kpr race speeds, before creating the final garments.
And Alison Jackson has already hidden hers to a Canadian road national champion title.
2025 Rapha Pro Team Roadsuit road racing skinsuit
Rapha says this is just the first of several big new “boundary-pushing” Pro Team kit developments to roll out this season, including more racing skinsuits.
“The suit is made up of three unique, lightweight fabrics, maximised for aerodynamics and comfort. Due to a rider’s aggressive riding position, the suit’s upper half includes more textured fabrics in order to manipulate airflow and reduce drag.
Its front flap design ensures easier in-race nature breaks and superior upper mobility. It is also constructed from recycled materials, meaning pro level performance for customers whilst reducing environmental impact.”
Tech details
Rapha create the new road racing skinsuit from 3 distinct fabrics.
- The new Pro Team Roadsuit features Rapha’s proprietary fish-scale-like mesh Clima across the sleeves, shoulders, and side panels to “manipulate air flow” – just like on the Pro Team Aero jersey.
- Then, the extended legs get a lightweight Italian-made highly compressive, stretch-woven material for muscle support and good thermoregulation from mid-to-hot, long days on the bike. (Leg length is the same as Rapha Pro Team Bib Shorts – Long.)
- Lastly, a lightweight knit makes up the rest of the body for breathability and quick moisture wicking.
The skinsuit gets two rear pockets (they confusingly call them ‘dual cargo pockets’) so you can carry regular race-day ride snacks or spares. And those pockets feature mesh internal dividers, an idea conceived together with Alison Jackson, as a solution to separate your trash from your snacks while racing.
The waist is said to cut high for an all-day feeling of stability on the bike, even when the jersey is unzipped. But Rapha says the design still allows for “easier in-race nature breaks” at the same time. The Roadsuit also gets its own low-profile, high-density, quick-wicking chamois for “enhanced comfort on the road”. And extra wide silicone leg grippers keep the shorts in place.
New Rapha Pro Team Roadsuit – Pricing, options & availability
Both men’s & women’s all-black versions of Rapha’s new Pro Team Roadsuit sells for $420 / 335€ – in wide 6 size ranges. Of course, that is pretty expensive, but it’s also 15-20% cheaper than buying a Pro Team Aero Jersey & Bib Shorts separately.
Interestingly, it seems there is another more colorful option for the new Roadsuit too. As quietly as you can do in color-shifting blues, greens & purples, Rapha snuck out a special Oil Slick edition of the new Roadsuits already last fall as part of their Rapha20 20th-anniversary celebrations. Those much more colorful Roadsuits feature all of the same material tech and refined fit, with a reissue of their 2018 Crit oil slick finish, printed-on reflective dots across the arms and shoulders, and chameleon color-changing logos.
Only limited sizes of the more expensive Oil Slick suits are available still, but women who find their size will get a pretty solid discount over the new black versions.
