After more than two decades at the pinnacle of cross-country racing, Nino Schurter is hanging up his race plate. The Swiss superstar, widely regarded as the GOAT of mountain biking, has announced that the 2025 UCI World Cup in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, will be his final dance in XCO.

Legendary Lenzerheide
Lenzerheide is more than just a home track for Schurter—it’s been the backdrop for some of the most iconic moments in his career. From capturing his eighth World Championship in 2018 to securing his record-breaking 34th World Cup victory, the trails of his hometown have witnessed history time and again.

In 2025, Schurter will bid farewell just a week after the World Championships in Crans-Montana. The race at the Lenzerheide track will be the last time racing in the Swiss jersey. A jersey Schurter proudly wore across five Olympic Games and producing three medals.

Who is Nino Schurter?
Nino’s career began 23 years ago with SCOTT-SRAM (then Swisspower) under the tutelage of legend Thomas Frischknecht, and he quickly became a transformative figure in XCO. Over the years, Schurter’s battles, partnerships, and relentless pursuit of perfection have redefined the sport. TEN (I had to double-check that figure) rainbow jerseys, three Olympic medals, and a staggering 36 World Cup victories later, he leaves a legacy that few will ever match.

At 39, the whispers of retirement have been around for years, yet Schurter’s performance never wavered. Having raced at the top for more than two decades, Nino pushed the limits of XCO at every race. Now, the rumors are reality: the 2025 Lenzerheide World Cup will mark the final time we see him line up at the iconic start gate. Closing a chapter that has defined mountain biking and training for generations of aspiring and professional mountain bikers.

But don’t expect to see Nino disappear from the trails entirely. He’ll remain with SCOTT-SRAM as a team ambassador and continue working with SRAM, RockShox, and SCOTT. His future will focus on charity and event projects, long-distance challenges, and gravel racing—including the 2026 Absa Cape Epic. One thing is certain: Nino Schurter’s influence on mountain biking is far from over.
